October 2011 – Sent in my Peace Corps application.

November 2011 – Initial acceptance into the Peace Corps.

August 2012 – Invited to serve in PC Zambia’s LIFE program

11 February 2013 – Staging in Philadelphia, along with 43 other soon-to-be volunteers in the LIFE (Linking Income, Food, and Environment) and RAP (Rural Aquaculture Program) programs.

12 February 2013 – Boarded plane from NYC to Lusaka, via Johannesburg.

13 February 2013 – Arrived in Zambia!

13 – 16 February 2013 – Pre-Service Training begins at the Barn Motel outside Lusaka.

17 – 20 February 2013First site visit, to see how a current volunteer lives.

21 February – 29 April 2013Pre Service Training in language, culture, technical skills, health, safety, etc, in Chipembi. Homestay with my awesome Bamaayo & Bataata in nearby Yuda Village. (Read about our big end-of-training celebration in the village here.)

27 March – 4 April 2013 – Second Site Visit, where I visited a current PCV in Northern Province and then spent two-and-a-half days in the village I would soon call home, Mfuba!

8 May – 10 August 2013Community Entry, during which I don’t get any vacation days and am supposed to just stay in the village, get to know people, make my home live-able, and figure out what my work will look like.

19 – 29 August 2013Interim Service Training, back at the good ol’ Barn Motel outside Lusaka. All the LIFErs got back together, with counterparts from our community, to get some additional training in sustainable development, HIV/AIDS prevention & care, and all the things we didn’t have time for in PST.

30 August – 3 September 2013Traveling with PCV friend Samwell to his village, north of Mkushi, and the village of fellow PCV friend Kate, north of Serenje, on my way back to Mfuba.

19 January – 1 February 2014 – Medical leave in Lusaka for unknown lump on my neck.

3 February 2014 – New LIFE PCTs (Life ’14) arrive in country.

17-22 March 2014 – Hosting Second Site Visit for new Northern LIFE PCTs in Mfuba Village. A chance to meet the newbies and help with training.

12-17 May 2014 – Peace Corps Mid-Term conference in Lusaka.

17-28 May 2014 Road-trip vacation through Northwestern and Western provinces.

17-22 August 2014 Luwingu Camp GLOW.

29 July – 1 August 2014 – Much-needed R&R at Kapishya Hot Springs, along the beautiful Muchinga Escarpment.

31 August – 5 September 2014 – Northern Province’s First Annual Camp TREE (Teaching Respect for Other People’s Environment), held – finally! – after months of hard work by me and my PCV friend Adam. (It was so, so worth it!)

22 October – 5 November 2014 – Epic Northern-Luapula province bike trip.

24-28 November 2015 – Peace Corps Provincial meetings and Thanksgiving  at NoPro house in Kasama.

28 December 2014 – 11 January 2015 – My first trip outside the country – two weeks in Malawi.

12-16 January 2015 –  Close of Service Conference in Lusaka.

 20 April 2015 – Leave Mfuba Village.

28 April 2015 –  Ring-out. End of service as a Zambian PCV.
